As a nurse I want to give my best to my small patients
BuddyCARE is a software enabling service concept that utilizes software and interactive technology as a tool to enhance the patient experience and communication between children, caregivers and doctors – resulting in better treatment. It transforms the emotional and cognitive journey of child patients and their families, acknowledging that care starts already at home. The solution provides a holistic service experience by using non-pharmacological ways to address issues such as fear and pain. The CareBuddy character helps the child go through the experience supporting the child on his/her level making it a more relaxing experience for the caregiver and nurse as well.
MiniCARE is a home application for families that gives tools for the parents to communicate with their child and the pediatrician. It is a tool to communicate the illness to the child, prepare him or her for the doctor’s appointment, monitor and share symptoms with the pediatrician, motivate the child to take his/her medicine and educate and motivate the child in a fun way.
BuddyCARE offers a means to provide a unified service experience and by giving the staff a tool with which to serve child patients better. Child patients are empowered through fun learning gaining an enhanced mental ability to understand and influence one’s own health becoming active participants in his/her care. The EduCARE training serves as a platform to train nurses in using the software. The concept was developed as a part of Design strategy and innovation course in Aalto University, School of Arts, Design and architecture.
